TOURNAMENT RULES (SUBJECT TO CHANGE)
Home/Visting Team: A coin must be flipped before the game starts to determine who is the home team. (COINS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED.)
Equipment: Each team will need to provide their own equipment. Bases should be provided by DHS (but bring some just in case). Please bring some softballs, gloves and bats for your team.
Reporting Scores: After the completion of each game one team member must report the score of the game to the scoring table. This is important to the final round scoring. If score is not reported the game will not count.
The Pitch: The pitch must come in slowly with a perceptible arc of between 6 and 12 feet from the ground. The pitcher must start with and keep one foot on the mound until the ball is released.
BALLS & STRIKES : THERE ARE NO BALLS AND STRIKES! You must make contact with the ball to advance to the next batter. YOU CANNOT WALK OR STRIKEOUT! There are no umpires to call the pitches anyways.
Defense: There are 10 players allowed on the field for defense. (one additional outfielder-sometimes referred to as a ‘rover’. You must have at least 9 players on the field at all time. There is no requirement of how many players of an individual sex must be on the field.
Stealing: There is no base stealing or leading off. Runners must remain in contact with the base until the ball passes over home plate or is hit. A runner off a base when the ball is pitched is ‘out’.
Bunting: There is no bunting or ‘chopping’ down on the ball (batter is out).
Hit by Pitch: A batter hit by a pitch may not take a walk to first base (ball is dead). Meaning it wont hurt and you should get out of the way.
Batting Lineup: All players on the team roster must be on the lineup and must have at bats. This way everyone can play.
(MOST IMPORTANT RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Home Run Rule: We are playing one up rules meaning that if Team A hits a homerun then Team A is up by one homerun on Team B and Team A can not hit a homerun until Team B hits one. Team B can then hit two homeruns until they are ahead by one homerun on Team A. Each homerun hit by the team that is “one up” will counted as an out. This rule applies only to balls hit over the fences.
Game Time: Games will be either 7 complete innings or a duration of 50 minutes (whichever comes first). A 10 run rule will be used after 5 innings of completion. in addition to the usual 7-inning regulation game and/or 50-minute time limit. No new inning will begin after 50 minutes regardless of score or tie. If the home team is losing at the top of the last inning of play, the home team must have a finial at bat.
Close Calls: Since there will be no official umpires each team will have to govern themselves. If worse comes to worse then the ball will be fair or the runner is safe. WE ARE ALL ADULTS SO LETS PLAY NICE! P.S. There are no foul lines so if its close then play the ball.
FINAL ROUND: Each team will be ranked according to final record and least amount of runs given up in the entire tournament. In case of a further tie, runs scored will be counted. The top three ranked teams will compete for the trophies.
REMINDER! School rules apply on campus. NO ALCHOLIC BEVERAGES!!!!
